Patient journey
What to expect
Consultation & preparation
Track your last menstrual period and cycle length so we can plan timing. If you are in IVF, bring your stimulation, scan, and transfer schedule. Eat a light meal 1 to 2 hours before. Bring any prior fertility-clinic investigations, semen analysis (where relevant), and any current medication list.
During treatment
Aftercare
After a session, take it easy for the rest of the day — a normal day is fine but very intense training and alcohol are best deferred. After a Paulus Protocol session before transfer, you go straight to the clinic; the post-transfer session is delivered as soon as you can return after the procedure. Continue any cycle tracking we have agreed.

FAQ
Common
questions
When in my cycle should I start fertility acupuncture?
Any time, although starting in the follicular phase (days 5-13) of a cycle gives the cleanest start. If you are in active IVF, we time the first session to your stimulation start where possible. The 12-week timeline matches the 90-day window of egg maturation, so the structure works whatever cycle day you walk in.
Will acupuncture replace my fertility clinic?
No. Acupuncture is supportive care that runs alongside your fertility clinic — never instead of it. We will recommend a clinic-led investigation if your presentation suggests one is needed, and we work to your specialist's prescribed protocols and timelines.
How does the Paulus Protocol work?
The Paulus Protocol is a defined acupuncture sequence delivered immediately before and immediately after embryo transfer. The original 2002 trial (Fertility & Sterility) reported a higher clinical-pregnancy rate; a 2018 Cochrane review found small benefits for live-birth rates. We offer it as supportive care — improving uterine blood flow and stress physiology around transfer — rather than as a fertility treatment in its own right.
Can my partner also have acupuncture?
Yes — male-factor sub-fertility (sperm count, motility, morphology, DNA fragmentation) is involved in roughly 40% of subfertility presentations, and acupuncture studies report improvements in some sperm parameters with regular treatment. We can run partner sessions concurrently or sequentially, depending on what makes life logistically simpler for you both.
What's the difference between this and the 12 Weeks Fertility Reset Protocol?
Fertility acupuncture is the standalone treatment — needling + TCM advice. The 12 Weeks Fertility Reset Protocol is the 12-week integrative programme that adds nutritional therapy, herbal medicine, and structured lifestyle coaching to the acupuncture. The 12 Weeks Fertility Reset Protocol suits women who want the comprehensive build; standalone acupuncture suits women already working with another nutritionist or coach.
