Fertility & Infertility
Roughly 1 in 7 UK couples experience subfertility. NICE guideline CG156 recommends investigation after 12 months of trying (or 6 months at age 36 and over). While fertility clinics manage the medical workup and assisted-reproduction technology, integrative TCM care addresses the modifiable inputs — cycle regulation, hormonal balance, nutritional status, stress physiology, and inflammation. Body Perfected has worked with women trying to conceive naturally, with PCOS or endometriosis diagnoses, and through IUI, IVF, ICSI, and frozen-embryo transfer cycles for over a decade.

What drives this concern

  • Ovulation disorders (PCOS, hypothalamic dysfunction, premature ovarian insufficiency)
  • Tubal damage from previous infection, surgery, or endometriosis
  • Endometriosis — affects pelvic environment + egg quality
  • Male-factor — sperm count, motility, morphology, or DNA fragmentation
  • Age-related decline in egg quality and ovarian reserve
  • Lifestyle inputs: chronic stress, insufficient sleep, BMI extremes, alcohol, smoking, environmental toxins
  • Underlying conditions — thyroid dysfunction, raised prolactin, undiagnosed coeliac, autoimmune disease

Common
questions

When should I see an integrative fertility practitioner?

NICE recommends investigation after 12 months of trying (6 months if you are 36 or over). Integrative support is most useful when you have at least 3 menstrual cycles available before any planned IVF cycle, or when you have time to address modifiable factors before assisted-reproduction. It is also valuable alongside an active IVF cycle for stress and cycle support.

Does acupuncture actually improve IVF success rates?

The original Paulus 2002 trial reported a higher clinical-pregnancy rate with peri-transfer acupuncture, and a 2018 Cochrane review found small benefits for live-birth rates. Subsequent trials are mixed. We offer acupuncture as supportive care — improving cycle regulation, stress physiology, and uterine blood flow — rather than as a fertility treatment in its own right.

Will Body Perfected work alongside my fertility clinic?

Yes. Most clients are seen alongside an NHS or private fertility clinic. We coordinate around your stimulation, scan, and transfer schedule and never recommend stopping prescribed medications. We will share treatment notes with your clinic on request.

How long should I commit to before seeing a result?

Egg maturation takes around 90 days, so we plan in 12-week cycles. Many women see cycle regulation, sleep, and energy improvements in the first 4-6 weeks. Conception is the longer-term goal — for some this is within the first programme, for others it follows several cycles or sits alongside IVF.
