Post-Surgical Recovery — MLD & Integrative Care in Marylebone, London
Manual lymphatic drainage, acupuncture, and nutritional support after aesthetic and gynaecological surgery — a four-pillar protocol designed to reduce swelling, support tissue healing, and shorten the recovery window.

What drives this concern
- Surgical disruption of skin, fascia, and lymphatic vessels — the body responds with inflammatory swelling
- General anaesthesia and post-op analgesia — slows gut motility and disrupts micronutrient status
- Reduced mobility in the immediate post-op period — slows lymphatic return
- Compression garments worn incorrectly or inconsistently — impairs venous and lymphatic drainage
- Pre-existing tendency to fibrosis or hypertrophic scarring
- Suboptimal nutritional status before surgery — protein, vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D underpin tissue repair
Treatment options for post-surgical recovery
Post-Op Recovery
TODO(intake): confirm with ClaudiaFour-pillar post-op protocol: MLD, acupuncture, nutrition, and herbal support — typically 6 to 12 sessions across the first 8 weeks of recovery, timed to the surgical schedule and surgeon clearance.
See treatment detail →Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD)
TODO(intake): confirm with ClaudiaStandalone MLD for clients whose surgeon has prescribed lymphatic massage but who do not need the full integrative protocol — ideal alongside an existing nutritionist or other clinician.
See treatment detail →Acupuncture
TODO(intake): confirm with ClaudiaAcupuncture for post-operative pain, nausea, and sleep disruption. Particularly useful in the first 1 to 3 weeks while opioid analgesia is being weaned.

Common
questions
When can I start MLD after surgery?
Most surgeons clear MLD from 24 to 72 hours after the procedure, depending on the operation. We do not start without explicit surgeon clearance — the timing matters. Clients usually arrive with a recovery plan from their surgeon; we coordinate the MLD frequency and pressure within those parameters.
How many MLD sessions will I need?
Most aesthetic-surgery recovery protocols use 6 to 10 MLD sessions over 4 to 6 weeks — frequency front-loaded to the early window. Larger procedures (full-body liposuction, abdominoplasty, large breast reductions) may need 10 to 15 sessions. We agree the plan with you and your surgeon at intake.
Why add acupuncture and nutrition to MLD?
MLD addresses fluid; recovery is more than fluid. Acupuncture supports pain regulation, post-operative nausea, sleep, and stress physiology — the latter delays healing if unaddressed. Nutritional support targets collagen synthesis, anti-inflammatory load, and the gut effects of anaesthesia. The four-pillar protocol works on the recovery the way the surgeon worked on the structural problem.
Will integrative care delay or interfere with surgical results?
No — when delivered by a practitioner trained in surgical recovery, MLD and integrative care are associated with better aesthetic outcomes, not worse. We always work in coordination with the surgical clinic: their plan leads, ours supports.
