Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment at Body Perfected, Marylebone
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete medical system practised in China for over two thousand years. It frames health as a balance of internal systems and uses acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, tuina, and herbal medicine as different tools to support the same balance. At Body Perfected the TCM pillar is delivered by Claudia Ferreira — BSc (Hons) Traditional Chinese Medicine and BAcC-registered, with postgraduate TCM Gynaecology & Obstetrics training. This service is for clients who want the full TCM system rather than a single modality, or who are not sure yet which combination of TCM tools fits their picture.

Common
questions

Is TCM regulated in the UK?

Acupuncture is regulated by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) for traditional acupuncture and by AACP / BMAS for Western medical acupuncture. Chinese herbal medicine is not statutorily regulated in the UK; the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM) and the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ATCM) are the main professional bodies. Body Perfected works to RCHM-aligned standards on sourcing, prescribing, and adverse-event monitoring.

Will TCM work alongside my Western medicine?

Yes. Most TCM at Body Perfected runs alongside conventional medicine — GP follow-up, fertility-clinic protocols, hospital pathways. We never recommend stopping prescribed medication and we coordinate with your prescribing clinician where the herbal element interacts with a current prescription (warfarin and St John's Wort being two well-known interactions outside the Chinese pharmacopoeia, but the principle applies).

How is this different from just having acupuncture?

A standalone acupuncture session uses one TCM tool. The TCM pillar service uses several — acupuncture plus whichever of moxibustion, cupping, tuina, or herbal medicine fits the diagnosis. Many presentations respond well to acupuncture alone; some respond materially better to the multi-modal approach. The intake conversation usually clarifies which is the right fit for you.

Are the herbs safe?

Reputable UK herbal practice uses only regulated, traceable suppliers; no endangered species, no banned ingredients, no substituted herbs. We disclose every ingredient in your formula and screen for known interactions with any medication you are on. Side effects are uncommon and usually digestive (loose stool, mild bloating); we adjust the formula if they arise.

How long should I plan to stay in TCM treatment?

For an acute or recent presentation, 6 to 12 weeks is usually enough to know whether TCM is the right tool. For chronic conditions, fertility work, or multi-system presentations, 3 to 6 months is more realistic. Some clients move to maintenance treatment (monthly or quarterly) for years after the initial work resolves.
